I've been lamenting the fact that Harry and Till don't sit and paint or draw like they used to. But you can't force creativity, right.
Today I set a trap! Call it Operation Art if you will.
Step One
- drag a table outside onto the verandah (a bit of fresh air always inspires me)
Step Two
- armed with a magnifying glass and flashlight, rummage through the Abyss aka craft cupboard to locate paint sets and art paper
Step Three
- arrange all items enticingly on the table with a jar of water...and finally...
Step Four
- step back, hide in the kitchen and WAIT
It took...oh...maybe an hour or so...but once they'd fallen into my trap, their bottoms stayed glued to that bench for quite some time - and they even returned for a second round! Hooray.
Sometimes that is all it takes. Like fish to a hook: you just need a little bait!

I haven't tried this before, but I love the idea of setting traps, will be storing it away for future use. It is true, it can be so hard to force something upon anyone, but if all the materials are there and waiting ...
ps that paint palette your daughter is using looks so deliciously bright (unlike the cheap one I use with poor Oscar).

Hi Imogen Eve. The paint palettes are Lyra brand which I bought from a Steiner website I think. I gave them to the kids a few years ago with strict instructions to take good care of them! They were a bit more expensive (range between $15-$30) but the quality is wonderful and they have lasted well.
I know...I want to sit down and paint with them...which I might just do today!
Style!! I WISH I had style. I think I'm officially the MOST un-stylist person on this planet!!!!!!!

Gorgeous photos...that looks like a lovely way to spend the day...both for them painting and for you loitering in the kitchen...hopefully drinking a cup of tea, watching and smirking!

We dusted off our craft box today. Going to make sure I do it alot more. My 4 year old was beside himself with excitement, loved it! Another great distraction for the coming winter months and another thing to add to the list in replacement of watching movies (and you know we don't watch telly ;-) xo
