the full triangle

Late on Sunday afternoon Harry asked to be taken to the archery field. He didn't attend archery much over winter. The warmer weather has inspired him to get back into it. The sun was already setting but I thought I'd take my camera along regardless - these days I take every opportunity I can to practise what I'm learning. You see, a week ago I switched my camera to manual. Well almost. The truth is, I did get my head around aperture and shutter speed...but the third element (ISO) still mystified me! I chose to leave my ISO setting on automatic.

Hmmmm........... ISO. I just didn't get it.
Until now.
And this link helped me a lot.

I took lots of photos yesterday, most of which I'm not happy with. It's hard not to become completely discouraged at times. Ben says I'm too hard on myself, but he doesn't understand how despondent I feel when the vision in my head doesn't translate into my actual photos. But the one above? I think it's almost good....I think I almost got the triangle right, almost!!!
Is it just me? Or is photography damn complicated?

It's lovely, especially the softness of their faces. I just recently learned one iso fact last week-high inside, low outside and its made such a difference-i really thought my house was too dark for inside photography before @eye roll@.
Good luck x

You know...I've always thought that about my house too....so now I'll have to experiment with my newly acquired IOS knowledge! Things are looking up. Ah, it's the simple things.
PS The photos on your blog are great - I think you totally have ISO under wraps!!

Michelle michelle michelle !! You are beating yourself up WAY too much ! your photos are great !
in my opinion (for what it is worth) i would stop reading so much ! By all means look at photos like on Flika ect for info ... if you like their style check out their exif info and try it with your camera .?
You get the basics.... keep the histogram on and play with the settings esp ISO and aperture and see what it looks like ... dep on the look you are going for it should be fairly evenly spread out ... i like the slightly over exposed look ??
I still look at my photos and think they arent as great as i want them, but i also think that when i sew, make cakes, mother my kids !!!
Seriously just love your beautiful camera and the great 50mm lens and snap away !

That photo is stunning! You've captured everything brilliantly. I still struggle so much with my photography.... I've never really ever used my camera on auto, just played around with settings on manual but it's all so hit and miss for me... if I'm lucky I'll get a decent shot among the hundreds I take :)
