slip and slide

Run full pelt. Leap. Throw yourself head first - or bottom first. Hit the ground and slide. It sounds horrific doesn't it! Chiropractors must hate waterslides!!!! Ah, good old fashioned Summer fun I say.

I hope the chiro will be back on island soon! We may need him.

keep playing

My kids are getting older (why do they have to do that? grow and develop and thrive and all that?). I'm noticing they've outgrown some of their toys. Harry put Woody and Buzz on the op-shop pile not so long ago...Mummy put them back in his room! Sheesh, what was he thinking? He's been playing with them since he was two!!!! I'm certain his future wife will keep them on the marital bed.

Their approach to play is changing, evolving I suppose. It's still creative and imaginative and actually a whole lot more sophisticated. But still, it makes me a bit sad. I've always been a little sentimental when it comes to childhood.

Till pulled out the dress-ups today and it wasn't long before her big brother joined the fun...Buzz joined in too!!!!! Muchas Gracias Buzz!

safe and sound

A little bit of rough sea action for you. Ben ducked down to Cascade Pier this morning...the cheeky bugger took my camera - what's that all about huh? There's only room for one budding photographer in this house (I am joking).

So we plan to stay indoors today. The wind isn't as strong as it was last night...when I felt the top storey of our house gently swaying in the breeze - that's a good thing right - a house with a bit of flex!?

No damage at our place - just a tree down in the chook yard. No chooks harmed! Speaking of chooks...we have 6 new chicks. I'll introduce them soon.

there'd be a wind a blow'n

Cyclone June is upon us, but don't fret - so far she's pretty tame (only a category 1). We are in for a windy night however! The photos don't show how gusty it is - I'm clearly a very dodgey weather photographer. Don't let those steadfast Norfolk Pines fool you - I know it looks like they aren't moving, that's because they don't really. Their majestic trunk stands pretty damn straight and doesn't really bend (as such) in the wind.

I live with First Officer No 1 Cyclone Updater (aka Harry). Not only is Harry keeping us informed about the cyclone's progress upon the hour, he's also devised our emergency plan. I really shouldn't make light of his diligence, he actually finds the whole scenario a bit stressful. Both kids put together our survival kit, which they've placed in the small space under our stairs (here's hoping we won't be retreating there - it's rather cramped). And never fear folks - if disaster should strike, we at least have gourmet food at the ready!!

Tinned baked beans anyone? Matilda packed the can opener just in case!

Oh, and Happy New Year! It's nice to be back here.
